Each of the proposed legislative tools and actions is leading up to a\nstronger EU climate policy framework, making the EU Green Deal a reality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The adopted\npackage of legislative tools will apply to new and existing sectors: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The ETS (Emission Trading System), which has been cutting emissions by 42.8% for the last 16 years, will be advanced to lower further down the emissions cap level while;<\/li><li>More actions will be undertaken on the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/files\/effort-sharing-regulation_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Effort Sharing Regulation<\/a>, assigning different emission target reduction for EU Member States for buildings, road and domestic maritime transport, agriculture, waste and small industries;<\/li><li>Member States will need to take further action for removing carbon from the atmosphere as presented in the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/files\/revision-regulation-inclusion-greenhouse-gas-emissions-and-removals-land-use-land-use-change-and-forestry_en\" target=\"_blank\">Regulation on Land Use, Forestry and Agriculture<\/a>;<\/li><li>An update is proposed on the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/files\/amendment-renewable-energy-directive-implement-ambition-new-2030-climate-target_en\" target=\"_blank\">Renewable Energy Directive<\/a> establishing a higher target (40%) for the energy produced from renewable sources;<\/li><li>A higher binding target for reducing energy consumption at EU level will be provided by a new <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/files\/proposal-directive-energy-efficiency-recast_en\" target=\"_blank\">Energy Efficiency Directive<\/a>;<\/li><li>In order to achieve zero-emissions in the transport sector, a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/files\/revision-directive-deployment-alternative-fuels-infrastructure_en\" target=\"_blank\">revised Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation<\/a> will require Member States to expand charging capacity in line with zero-emission car sales, while the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/files\/refueleu-aviation-sustainable-aviation-fuels_en\" target=\"_blank\">ReFuelEU Aviation Initiative<\/a> will oblige fuel suppliers to blend increasing levels of sustainable aviation fuels in jet fuel taken on-board at EU airports;<\/li><li>Last but not least, a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/files\/carbon-border-adjustment-mechanism_en\" target=\"_blank\">new Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism<\/a> will put a carbon price on imports of a targeted selection of products to ensure that ambitious climate action in Europe does not lead to \u2018carbon leakage&#8217; for eventually contributing to a global emission reduction process. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to get further information on the adopted package of legislative tools, check the European Commission <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/IP_21_3541\" target=\"_blank\">press release<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/files\/communication-fit-55-delivering-eus-2030-climate-target-way-climate-neutrality_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">official communication<\/a> of the \u201cFit 55 package\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, the EC circulated a new set of proposals delivering the 2030 climate change targets.
